Like others, I did not think Caldecott Medal when I first saw MY FRIEND RABBIT, but I do remember thinking "fun!"

At the time I didn't really study it with the careful eye that we all give winners after the award announcement is made. However, I do remember lingering because, for some reason the heavy black line and the woodcut appearance, gave me a flashback, not to the more recent practitioners of woodcut illustration, but back to the 60's and 70's when woodcut and woodblock art were so common. Despite all the color that Rohmann uses, I was thinking of Marcia Brown,Ed Emberley, and others. I am not sure what triggered this reaction, but maybe just the amount of black ink involved.
