I agree with Ed: I would have been happy to see Hole in My Life win the Printz, though I think all of the choices were strong. And I was surprised to see it included as a Sibert, though you like to see a good book recognized wherever it can be, and it does sneak in under the Sibert's definition of itself. I have lent it to some of my 8th graders without fear they'll be warped for the rest of their lives, but I do agree that it's aimed at a high school aged audience. And Jack Gantos, himself, is quite adamant that it's for that older audience, that it should not be in libraries next to the Joey Pigzas and Jack Henrys. It is one of those rare books that I read, passed it on to my daughter (18), who read it and passed it on to my son (16), and on it went to my wife (?).
