Maybe taking us by surprise? A random grab? I think this adds speed to the whole series of events. Does this book almost seem animated to anyone else? Grabbing an elephant's tail and pulling him into the picture is almost like a flip book. Things unfold so rapidly, our brains almost fill in the gaps and make it all in motion.
But what I like best about the book is its zany wildness and the reliability and determination of Rabbit. I have an idea. . .
