This year's Rabbit Hill Festival, sponsored by the Westport Public Library (Arnold Bernhard Plaza, Westport, CT 06880) takes place March 270, 2003. The festival honors the legacy of Robert Lawson who, for many years, lived and worked in Westport at the home he called Rabbit Hill. He is the only author/illustrator to have won both the Newbery and Caldecott Medals.
The focus for this year's festival is: Animals in literature for children: fiction, informational books, folklore, and illustration. Speakers are: Jerry Pinkney, Wendell Minor, Jean Craighead George, Susan Jeffers, and Hope Ryden.
The schedule includes an opening lecture by Wendell Minor on Thursday evening, a tour of award-winning Weston Woods studios and a talk by a local historian about the Rabbit Hill site and neighborhood on Friday, and a symposium on Saturday with Jerry Pinkney as keynote speaker and talks by all the authors as well as small group lectures. Dinner with the authors and illustrators is available on Friday night for early registrants. The festival ends on Sunday with a Weston Woods/Jerry Pinkney film festival for the general public.
