What a great choice for the Newbery winner. I haven't been following picture books, but I've read most of the novels for 2002 and this was at the top of my list. A wonderful array of honor books, too.
The Avi book is the best of all worlds -- it combines a page-turner with excellent writing, well-researched historical details, and memorable characters.
