My initial reaction to FEED was viscerally negative, for many of the reasons that others have already stated. I really had to listen to those who appreciated the book articulate its strengths.
This book has the trappings of science fiction, but I hesitate to classify it as a true science fiction novel because most of that genre is plot-driven, whereas I don't see FEED being plot-driven (or even character-driven), but driven rather by its obnoxious anti-consumerism theme. I think comparisons to George Orwell, Kurt Vonnegut, Aldous Huxley, and Anthony Burgess are more apt.
