Feed embodies what is fascinating about science fiction. From the first page , I paraphrase- my copy is on loan, We went to the moon to have fun, but the moon turned out to completely suck-so begins the roller coaster ride into a scary, funny dystopia.

First the language- these kids speak like many a teenager we know and like none. The slang is not forced but feels like a natural evolution from previous phrases influenced by the present society, family and peers. The dad talks like today's teens and reminds me of people today who were coming of age in the sixties who still insert an unconscious "man" for emphasis or as a verbal hiccup.

Remarkably this examination of commercialization of all aspects of life does not come across as didactic which due to it's humor and the moments of recognition that this future does not seem too far off.
