Book Discussion Opportunities

Annual CCBC Award Discussions provide interested adults with the opportunity to discuss books eligible for several annual book awards using the specific criteria for each award. The following award discussions have been planned for late fall 2002, and early 2003:

          Sibert: Friday, January 10, 3:30-5:30 p.m
          Newbery: Wednesday, January 15, 5:10-9:10 p.m
          Americas: Monday, March 3, 5:10-9:10 p.m.

CCBC Speeches and Exhibits

     On the UW-Madison Campus

Career Education in K-6 Literature, a speech and exhibit by Megan Schliesman, will be part of the Careers Conference 2003 Preconference, on Monday, January 27, 2003 at the Pyle Center on the UW-Madison campus. The conference is sponsored by the UW-Madison School of Education Center on Education and Work. For more information, contact the Center on Education and Work at (800) 44699.

Recent Books about the Arts for K Classrooms will be the topic of a speech and exhbit by Megan Schliesman at the Wisconsin Alliance of Arts Educators conference at the Memorial Union on the UW-Madison campus on Friday, February 21, 2003. For more information, contact Rebecca Katzenmeyer .

Celebrate the publication of CCBC Choices 2003 with members of the Friends of the CCBC on Saturday, March 8, 2003. CCBC librarians Kathleen T. Horning, Merri V. Lindgren and Megan Schliesman will highlight some of the books in the latest edition of the CCBC's best-of-the-year booklist, which comes out that day. The Friends' annual meeting will also be held. This event is for members of the Friends of the CCBC only (anyone can join the Friends at the door). Friends members will receive more information about this event in the mail.

Distance Education Opportunities

The following CCBC ITV (interactive video) distance education sessions are being offered by the Four Lakes Distance Education Network in conjunction with other distance education networks across Wisconsin.      This session will feature the American Library Association 2003 award-winning books, including the Newbery, Caldecott, Mildred L. Batchelder, Coretta Scott King, Michael L. Printz, and Robert F. Sibert award winners.

     Best New Books for Pre-K to Grade 5: Wednesday, February 19, 3:45 5 p.m.

     This session will feature books on the American Library Association's 2003 Notable Children's Books list, and books in CCBC Choices 2003

     This session will feature books on the American Library Association's 2003 Best Books for Young Adutls and Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers lists, and books in CCBC Choices 2003.
