A group of 21 librarians and teachers met last night for the third of our Mock Newbery discussions and participated in a spirited and perceptive discussion of the books on our list. The Rhode Island winner was Pictures of Hollis Woods by Patricia Reilly Giff, with honors to Crispin: The Cross of Lead by Avi, When My Name Was Keoko by Linda Sue Park, and The Same Stuff as Stars by Katherine Paterson. Keeper of the Doves by Betsy Byars and A Corner of the Universe by Ann Martin finished just off the top group.
