Pam Conrad's MY DANIEL (1989) shows a beautiful brother sister relationship between Daniel and Julia. I have an older brother myself -- and as I read Julia's description of Daniel helping her get ready for an early early morning outing, I remember wishing that my brother loved me that tenderly -but of course -- once I thought about it -- I realized he did/does.
I haven't re-read that book in a decade -- but the passage -- and my emotional response are so vivid in my mind -- I must conclude that Conrad's writing was/is remarkably powerful.
