Another good example of this is Whitley Strieber's (out of print) WOLF OF SHADOWS, where a mother and her daughter, surviving the perhaps inevitable Collapse of Civilization (nuclear, in this instance) must rely on a wolf pack, and its leader, to save them, as they trek from North America to a relatively safer haven south of the border...
One suspects we may need a lot of wolf wisdom in the unfolding century...
