Thank you, Angelica, for mentioning the sister relationships (and friends, too, of course) in the Betsy-Tacy books. I read them over and over and used to wish that I lived in Deep Valley. I also reread The Moffats, by Eleanor Estes, a few weeks ago and could see why I loved the series as a child. The children were poor, but they all helped the family, and they had funny, unusual adventures.
