I have a Chinese-American daughter and a European-American son so I spend a lot of time looking for books that show diverse families. My all-time favorite is HORACE by Holly Keller. It is an "animal" story but so clearly about the issues a child who does not look like her family must come to terms with. It is such a moving book. As many times as I've read it, I still can't hardly get through it without welling up.

Another amazing book about diverse families in a neighborhood is called THE ARABOOLIES OF LIBERTY STREET by Sam Swope, Illustrated by Barry Root.
