One book I've recently re-visited whic depicts unusual family arrangements is Solitary Blue by Cynthia Voigt. I first read it many years ago and didn't much care for it. This year I picked it up on tape, and as I listened, I realized why I didn't like it. I was so ANGRY with parents who "just didn't get it" and who were so wrapped up in themselves that they couldn't be bothered to see how their actions
(or inactions) were affecting their son. In this new experience, I came to a better understanding of how families sometimes get this way. Ah, the joys of age and experience to make us more tolerant!
