I'm sorry...sent a message before I finished typing!
I wanted to share a first-time novelist's name with all of you. Ruth Lercher Bornstein just published Butterflies and Lizards, Beryl and Me.
Wow! Her writing draws such vivid pictures in my mind...maybe her background in illustration makes her writing richer. This book, published by Marshall Cavendish, takes place during the depression. Charley (a girl, by the way) struggles with an absent father, an angry mother, and whether or not to befriend an odd, old woman shunned by townsfolk. Really great read... I look forward to more novels by such an original voice.
