Joan Dash is a pretty interesting new author in the biography field. I guess she's not technically a new voice, since she's been writing for a while, but her two most recent titles are exceptional. "The Longitude Prize" was a fascinating look at someone most kids have never heard of. She made the character interesting and also brought the whole spirit of his era to life. When she wrote about a much more familiar character in "The World at Her Fingertips," she was able to approach Helen Keller with fresh perspective, so even if you've read other HK biographies for kids you'll learn find new things to think about. In both books she does a good job of letting us know where her information comes from, so we get some insight into historical research along the way.
