Hi all,
Los Angeles Public Library is working with the LA County Music Center and the LA Times to produce a series of children's programs called, "Performing Books." We are going to feature an art form and have performers "act out" the books that are read. For example, jazz artists will perform to Chris Raschka's, "Charlie Parker played be bop." This is just one way we are hoping to bring the arts and literature to youngsters. If you have some good ideas for books that can be read and performed let me know. If this project works then other systems might want to adopt it for their libraries. If anyone is interested I will be happy to share our experiences. Thanks to you all!

and his exciting work...and really try to stay kind of quiet out here...but have to add my praises to kathleen's about the extraordinary style and vision of greg chris tie....i have followed his efforts since he began to publish and...never...have i seen/heard a false note of pretense or posture in anything he has done.....my enthusiasm...and pride...prompt me to do a very early "announcement" of a large collection of j azz and blues poems of mine to be published in the "not-too-distant-future" (haha, the poet laughs into his morning chai)---at simon&schuster...illustrated by greg christie....a 96-page book with all the room for the man to exe cute and achieve....of course i can hardly wait...and have been waiting: but over the years we have "waited" years for busy artists such as barry moser and jerry pinkney and the dillons...and patience has always been repaid with the innovative visua l excellence which filled our lives....
