One of the newer voices that I have been quite impressed with is David Almond's. SKELLIG is one of those books that seemed to come out of nowhere. I was enrapture by its surrealistic nature and its simplicity. I found KIT'S WILDERNESS equally enthralling. What I perhaps liked most about both these books was that I couldn't think of any other books that were similar to them.
I haven't yet read his newer works, so can't comment on them.
