Recognition from the MacArthur Foundation

As many of you probably already know, Virginia Hamilton was the first children's author ever awarded a grant from the MacArthur Foundation
(commonly called "genius grants"). She received it in 1995 and the announcement of it marked the very first discussion on CCBC-Net in June 1995. Archives of this discussion can be found at:

With this in mind, we are pleased to note that author Karen Hesse has joined the ranks of MacArthur Foundation grant recipients, making her the second children's author to win in the award's 21 year history. Further info about the 2002 grants can be found at:
