The luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2002, at the Residence Dining Hall on the campus of California State University, Fresno. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. with the luncheon scheduled to begin at noon. Mr. Peck's books will be available for sale and autographing from 11 a.m. to noon and following the luncheon. Reservations are required by October 4. Cost is $20 for ANCA members,

Richard Peck is one of America's most highly respected writers, beloved by middle-graders for his mysteries and by young adults for his coming-of-age stories. His 25 novels include Are You in the House Alone?, Father Figure, Strays Like Us, Lost in Cyberspace, A Long Way from Chicago, and the 2001 Newbery winner, A Year Down Yonder. The Newbery medal is awarded annually by the American Library Association to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children for that year. In 2001 President George W. Bush presented Mr. Peck with a National Humanities Medal for his lifetime achievements.

Mr. Peck's most recent novel, Fair Weather, is set at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. From September 16 to October 25, the Henry Madden Library at California State University, Fresno, will offer displays of Mr. Peck's books and Chicago World's Fair materials from the Donald G. Larson Collection on International Expositions and Fairs.

At the luncheon, Mr. Peck will discuss his newest book, Invitations to the World: Teaching and Writing for the Young, a revision of Love and Death at the Mall to include thoughts about how young people have been affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001.

Free parking is available in Lot G on the northeast corner of Shaw and Cedar.
