I had the pleasure of sitting one afternoon on the balcony of a hotel room with Virginia. She was visiting the Los Angeles area.
We both expressed our admiration for Beverly Cleary and she remarked that she once tried to write a Ramona character...but failed miserably..Her Ramona's always came out more like Zeely.
I'll always treasure that day and the opportunity to get to know her.
