In a nutshell, here are some books I think are winners for two's and under:

Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang Moo, Baa, La La La by Sandra Boynton Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear: A Classic Action Rhyme adapted by Michael Hague Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin (good for older siblings, too) We're Going on a Bear Hunt, adapted by Michael Rosen (ditto for the siblings) Benny Bakes a Cake by Eve Rice Max books by Rosemary Wells (her Noisy Nora is good, too) Color Zoo and Color Farm by Lois Ehlert We Have a Baby by Cathryn Falwell Sam books by Barbro Lindgren The Little Mouse, the Red, Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear by the Woods (a Christmas sequel is due this fall) Stella and Roy by Ashley Woolfe Frank and Joey books by Arthur Yorinks, illus. by Maurice Sendak (great for boys but I think they went quickly out of print) Spot books by Eric Carle The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins Helen Oxenbury's three board book series that include Clap Hands, Working, and I See Tana Hoban's high-contrast board books that include Black on White Tana Hoban's concept board books that include Red, Blue, Yellow Shoe
