Hi all, I'm excited about this month's discussion. I do an infant lapsit program for babies age 6 months-2 years. I've used a variety of books for my programs. I've found some of Byron Barton's books useful for the bright, simple and bold illustrations. I have also used books by Denise Fleming with much success. Barnyard Banter is a great one. The repetitive animal noises and her beautiful and unique style of illustrations make her books work very well for young children. Recently I've discovered a book called This Little Chick by John Lawrence. He uses vinyl for the woodcut-like illustrations to make very big and bright images of animals. The text is simple (a little chick makes his way through the barnyard meeting all the animals) but the illustrations pop out of the page. I'm excited to try it out on my regulars. They love books that have animals noises they can try out. Thanks for letting me join in on a great discussion. Jannis Mindel Austin-Irving Branch Chicago Public Library
