Repetition. Rhyme. Familiar situations. Family life. Simple pleasures. Bold artwork.
These are some of the characteristics you've mentioned of the favorite books for babies and toddlers that you've shared so far this month.
What are other characteristics that you find make a book especially appealing to very young children? What are some other titles that stand out as you think about these things that make a book particularly outstanding for babies and toddlers.
I recently shared Forest Tracks by Dee Dee Duffy with a young child, and the thing that made this book so very appealing was the sense of anticipation that came with every two page spread. What animal made the tracks we were seeing and the sound described? As I got ready to turn the page, the child's whole body was tense with excitement for the discovery about to be made.
So I add "anticipation" to our growing list of characteristics.
What do you want to add?
