G'day from WA (West Australia)
I'm having problems getting on the listserve so thought I'd pop in through our International SCBWI person extraordinaire Erszi Deak So many exciting prospects in the field of children's literature down under.
Please check out the Fremantle Children's Literature Centre:
- provides a focus for all those interested in children's literature, bringing together students, teachers, parents, writers, storytellers, illustrators and specialists in the field. It provides a home for ensuring the preservation of pre-publication manuscripts and artwork.
- holds regular exhibitions of original artwork and manuscripts.
My new book "The Legend of Moondyne Joe" will be on exhibit next Term. yea!
Dromkeen Children's Literature Centre is showcasing an exhibition comprising solely Australian art from children's picture books: www.scholastic.com.au/dromkeen/
Most of my books originate in the US, but also publish locally. Now have dual citizenship and commute (ha) between Oz and NY at least twice a year. I've released 3 picture books crammed with spectacular creatures and landscapes for which Australia is famous. They capture the spirit and unique nature of Australia and are ideal as a teaching aides. You can see them on my website at www.artbeatpublishers.com
"Outback Adventure" "Our Big Island" and "Magic Boomerang".
Sure hope I can get on the discussion eventually with y'all. I've written to the listkeeper in the meantime .
Lot's of love, Fran? Lessac
