Patricia Wrightson was one of the first children's authors I ever heard speak, and she was such an inspiration. This was in Honolulu some years ago, and at the time she had just been able to quit or retire as a hospital administrator. She talked about being the single parent of two children and writing at night, and since I have also always been a writer who worked full time in administrative jobs I think back to her words still.

I remember I once wrote a letter to Horn Book about NARGUN, a book that should NOT be out of print, and I received a nice note from Margaret McElderry, who had seen it and wrote how she had published Wrightson. I'm always on the lookout for used copies to send to people. Not just a fantasy, it is a story also of healing and grief and family. Perhaps there are plans to bring it back.
