Hi, folks, I've just returned from being at ALA for a week, and found this reply from ME Kerr to my question about her adult novel
"Shockproof Sydney Skae." I think it was intended to go to the entire list, so I'm forwarding it on:
Thanks for the kind words about Shockproof Sydney Skate. I wrote it as an adult book. I did not yet know about the YA field. The book was rejected nineteen times, not just rejected but angrily rejected, called immoral etc. Then Little,Brown took it, then Literary Guild and The Book Find Club took it as an alternate selection, and finally movie producers began optioning it...About three years ago Fox exercised the option and word was that Cameron Crowe was going to do the script...But there has been no action on it since. It will soon be out in reprint by HarperCollins. I do not think of it as a YA book. It is a very New York type comedy that I doubt would interest the average teenager.
Thanks again for asking. mekerr
