I agree with Jeffrey. I come from a short line of nonviolent resisters and it is never easy going against the multitude, whether war is long ago or on our doorstep. One of the reasons I am a children's librarian is to offer my community a variety of books that invite members to explore different cultures, religions, ideas, and values. One of the esteemed subscribers on this list (Don Gallo?, Michael Cart?) spoke to this during the discussion on books in translation. Oh--it was Arthur Levine--he said "that ignorance is the root of hate, and that the more we know about each other, the less possible it is to demonize whole groups, cultures, countries." So I am happy to have a new book by a wonderful, thoughtful writer that can encourage dialogue on the most important issue of our time: the choice between nonviolence or non??ing (MLK, Jr.).
