[CCBC-Net] ME's Compelling Characters

Karen Simonetti posed some provocative questions about characters in ME Kerr's books.

My all-time favorite ME Kerr novel is "Little Little," not just for the social satire and unusual main characters, Little Little La Belle and Sidney "The Roach" Cinnamon, but also for Little Little's younger sister, Cowboy, who seems perhaps to be the genesis of Evie Burrman in
"Deliver Us from Evie." One line of description, in particular, stands out in this regard: "A Camel dangles from her mouth at all times away from home and school, and she lopes around like some tall farm boy coming in from the wheat fields."

One thing that I find most compelling (I won't bother imitating a book review) about all your works are the characters. How do you find them? Do any of them have other stories to tell? Do you know the characters whose stories you've yet to tell? By that I mean, do the characters grow over a period of time? Or are they thrust into a story that must be told?
