Thanks for the kind words about Night Kites, Wendy. When I talk to kids I like to ask them if they know what the one thing is I can't write about. They come up with the usual: sex, religion, etc. and are surprised when I say it's rock music. The reason for that is: nothing dates a book quicker than mentioning the group on the top of the pop charts today. I hope my book will last some ten years (if I'm lucky) and it's off putting to have a contemporary setting and talk of songs from "long ago". I broke the rule with Night Kites. I love rock and MTV and in that book I made frequent references to singers, and groups. (Fortunately Sting and Madonna and Springsteen are still with us but others' stars have faded)...The reason I broke the rule was that I didn't think AIDS would be around very long. I didn't think a book about it would have much life, so I indulged myself and my characters talked a lot about music. Cheers! mekerr
