I was thinking about what Kathleen said that was, in essence, humor comes from the incongruous. I believe this is in large part true. Incongruity is certainly key. For instance in the Denim/Pilkey combo "Dumb Bunnies" even a pre-3 year old will laugh at the picture of Baby Bunny with underwear on his head. The child knows the underwear doesn't belong there - Incongruity. Parents laugh outloud at the posters outside the movie theatre for the same reason. those posters don't quite fit - Incongruity. The other thing that happens is that as the child/parents begin to find a piece hunorous, they begin to look deeper to find more to laugh about so that a book that may have started out as "dumb" indeed becomes funny the closer one looks. Thanks, Kathleen, for the word. Peace and Blessings, Cathy Norman, Youth Services Librarian 335 Vine Street Fairport Harbor Public Library Fairport Harbor, OH 44054?91 ext 23 csn71650 at hotmail.com
*Of course my opinions are my own. Who else would want them?*
