I have to agree about the talent of James Marshall. In addition to both the bold and subtle touches of his illustrations, I remember two lines that crack me up.
she says "They must have kitties."
taunted to join Millie to climb up a tree, and after Millie (the taunter) says she doesn't know how to get down, Fox replies "Well, that's just dandy!"
Why do these two lines crack me up? I don't know and I'm not going to analyze them. Just going to enjoy them.
