I enjoyed Doug Cooney's "Beloved Dearly," and I think kids will too. A boy who's always looking for money making schemes finally comes up with a winner: giving secret neighborhood pet funerals. He recruits a coffin maker and a designated
"cryer" and soon has a steady stream of recently deceased critters and their child owners. The narrative has a sort of mock-serious tone that's pretty funny, once you get into it, poking fun at the world of business, and also at death and grieving, then in the end it has some serious messages behind the humor at the end.
