Lee--I think you're right that kids think "impolite" things are funny. Isn't that just a twist on the parody thing. Unfortunately, I rarely find parody funny. The Monty Python shows rarely draw a laugh from me, though my husband and kids love them.
And worst of all is bathroom humor. For example, the bathroom humor in ARTEMIS FOWL was senseless.
Parody and bathroom humor aside, what are some really funny books? Titles?
