When my daughter first started reading the Lemony Snicket books two years ago she was eight. She LOVED them (her emphasis) and when I read them and chuckled all the way through I could see why. One day we had a conversation about them and discovered that, while I found them funny, Mary just thought they were very sad. She still loved them but thought I was weird for finding them funny. Shortly after that our local bookstore had an author visit from Lemony Snicket. If you've ever attended these you know he is a hoot! We had to go straight from Brownies and when he saw Mary in her uniform he shrieked, "Oh no, a member of the paramilitary!" After that event Mary was able to see the humour in the books because of the way he read them. I have grown a little tired of them but she continues to lap them up.
My sister called me today because she was cataloguing the new Lemony Snicket autobiography. She says it seems very complex and not very easy reading. Has anyone read this?
