I'm so glad Susan Patron brought Sid Fleischman into the discussion -- I was about to do so as it doesn't make any sense to discuss humor and leave his wonderful books out! Chancy and The Grand Rascal remained my kids' favorite from the moment they encountered it. And I remember doing some research in the library sitting across from a boy who was reading it and listening to him laugh...
