Someone mentioned Lois Lowry's "Sam" books, but how about the "Anastasia" books?! We read those aloud as a family when my eldest daughter was Anastasia's age and were weeping with laughter! I was so sad when Anastasia was no longer a topic - I needed the parenting advice for those teenage years!

Junie B. Jones draws as much laughter around here as Captain Underpants. the children in 1 through 6 devour her. I think it's because they are no longer naive kindergarden students. I don't know what will happen now that she is in first grade.

I have to plug Joan Bauer here. SQUASHED is one of the funniest books I have ever read. When junior high and high school students request a book "as funny as THE WORST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER" Bauer is the author I hand them. HOPE WAS HERE is much more well written I think, but SQUASHED still makes me laugh!
