more of what's funny

Adding to the list begun by fairrosa and Maggi:

visual humor--Like slapstick humor in the movies, illustrations often play the leading role in picture book humor. The Cat in the Hat, for example, draws smiles as soon as a child looks at the cover with that weird striped hat perched on a cat's head. (Or does this simply fall under <<outrageous situations>> and > mentioned by fairrosa...)

contagious laughter--Many of us have mentioned the shared experience of laughter while reading a book aloud or listening to books-on-tape with our families. The sound of other people laughing can really magnify the humor. To me, shared laughter is the best part of humorous books. (Just think of all the sharing we're enjoying just reading email about funny books!)

I've busily copied down titles for lots of laughs over the summer... Thanks to everybody for suggestions.
