I know I'm jumping the gun by a day or two (hope that's OK), but here is an announcement:


The winners of the 2002 Boston Globe--Horn Book Awards are:

FICTION AND POETRY Lord of the Deep (Delacorte) by Graham Salisbury Honor Books: Saffy's Angel (McElderry) by Hilary McKay; Amber Was Brave, Essie Was Smart (Greenwillow) written and illustrated by Vera B. Williams

NONFICTION This Land Was Made for You and Me: The Life and Songs of Woody Guthrie
(Viking) by Elizabeth Partridge Honor Books: Handel, Who Knew What He Liked (Candlewick) by M. T. Anderson, illustrated by Kevin Hawkes; Woody Guthrie: Poet of the People (Knopf) written and illustrated by Bonnie Christensen

PICTURE BOOK

The judges were: Grace Greene, Chair Children's Services Consultant, Vermont Department of Libraries Jennifer Brabander, Senior Editor, The Horn Book Magazine and The Horn Book Guide Tim Wadham, Children's Services Coordinator, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, Arizona, and author of Programming with Latino Children's Materials and Bringing Fantasy Alive for Children
