I'd like to think I write creative nonfiction, but I don't consider that there is any blurring of the line between truth and untruth, if that is the implication of fact vs. fiction. I consider creative nonfiction to be nonfiction that employs techniques of fiction -- strong narrative, a particular point of view, vivid writing -- that have too often been missing in nonfiction heretofore. But I feel strongly that I must not make anything up if I'm presenting a work as nonfiction.
