I found Richard's comment about the dominance of text in our society interesting in a discussion of children's books. Our society as a whole and children in particular are becoming more and more visual in their sensory perception of the world. I hadn't really thought about bibliographies for illustrations but see the need now more than ever, especially for children who may focus more on the pictures and less on the text. Not to say that kids don't read the text... I just remember my boys as five year olds who selected nonfiction books from the library every week that far exceeded their limited reading capability. They poured over the illustrations, often falling asleep with an open book beside their pillow. Accuracy in illustrations should be held to standards as high as that for text.
