I don't know this book, but in the author's defence, maybe he felt a genuine debt of gratitude to these schools and wished to acknowledge the part they played in enabling him to write the book, either financially or creatively or both. I know that some authors have been directly inspired to write a book from a school visit - see the acknowledgment in Diana Wynne Jones'
"Howl's Moving Castle" for a case in point. However, I do agree that three pages seems excessive!
