As a volunteer library 'helper', I know that kids love facts and fiction mixed together. Just look at the popularity of the 'American Girl' series, where the people and story are fiction, but the places and major events (and not so major) are mixed in. Also the 'Dear America' series, which look like a diary. Once explained, children have no problem when fact and fiction are mixed, and harking back to a previous conversation, most kids have no problem with irony and sarcasm (I recall my daughter, at age 8, telling a friend that sarcasm was the family form of humor!).
