Two points:
1. I think some (if not a very large number, but not necessarily a small one either) children actually ENJOY looking at back matters and finding out some extra information regarding the topic, without being required to (for a book report.)
2. And since this month's topic is "creative nonfiction" -- maybe we can think creatively and design the back matters to look NOT like back matters. If it does not appear to be separated from the "book" itself, readers possibly will continue reading to discover more on the topic. Or it can go one step further and be fun or inviting.
