When I heard about A Book of Coupons I was very eager to read it. I loved Secret Letters from 0 to 10, and the coupon idea seemed to be one that kids would love. As I read it, I did enjoy the coupons, but the school setting and the conflict between the teacher and the principal seemed unrealistic. Maybe it could happen in France and I shouldn't have read in my own experiences in American public schools, but I was uncomfortable with that aspect of the book. As a result, I have not yet ordered it for our library, but this discussion might make me change my mind. I'm glad to know that some classes enjoyed it as a read-aloud.
I appreciate the recent discussion about How I Became an American. We are looking for books about immigration for our fourth grade, and this sounds like a good choice.
