Book of Coupons

I'm not sure why I didn't get involved in the Sibert discussion. I liked all of the books, and have liked all of Susan Bartoletti's books. I remember reading aloud No Man's Land to my son when we were on vacation in Maine, sitting in front of a roaring fire on a cold August evening.

Anyway, on to the Batchelders:

It's been a long time since I read The Book of Coupons, and I don't have it in front of me. So, just an anecdote: We found it in the university bookstore at Sewanne (The University of the South) when it had just come out. We had liked Secret Letters from 0, so this caught our attention. We had gone down there for a Sunday drive and to meet friends for dinner. Since we were early, we bought the book and I read it aloud to my wife at a picnic table in a park. It's an excellent read-aloud and a wonderfully-told story, and it added to a very nice day in Tennessee! Now it's part of my wife's classroom collection. Not a very intellectual comment about the book, but a fond memory nevertheless.
