I used The Three Pigs with a somewhat different audience recently.
During January (we have a one month experimental type term each year) , a colleague frorm the English department and I taught a course called Reading About Reading: Literary Theory and Children's Literature which taught some literary theory to elementary education majors using children's texts. Anyway, we used The Three Pigs to discuss post-structuralism and deconstruction. Not only did they laugh heartily as they watched the pigs deconstruct and take over the text, but they also really "got" the theory. And it was a great treat for them when the book won the Caldecott Award the day after we discussed the book in class. Made me look good too!
