I am delighted to note in regard to this conversation that one of the artist/authors mentioned below - George Ancona - is the winner of the 2002 Washington Post-Children's Book Guild Nonfiction Award in WAshington, D.C. The award is given for the body of the author/illustrator's work; the head of the Guild's Nonfiction Award selection committee - Jewell Stoddard writes that Ancona's "outstanding and dynamic books take his readers into the lives of people of different ethnic groups in the United States and Latin America." George Ancona will be honored at the annual Children's Book Week Luncheon in Washington in November.
