Some of you are confused about what's happening right now within the CCBC-Net community discussion.
CCBC-Net has pre-announced discussions. During the past week, the topic was the Caldecott Award winner and Honor Books.
Right now we're in a transition period, because we typically ask everyone to make announcements related to Children's & Young Adult Literature (events, programs, off-topic award winners courses, exhibits, journals, etc.) on the last and first days of each month.
Usually people still have something to say about the previous month's
(or week's) topic, and so they continue to comment on the previous topic during the last and first days of the month. Yesterday I suggested in my message about The Three Pigs that people might want to comment about it or any Caldecott Honor Book throughout the weekend. I did that because we know that many in the CCBC-Net community have no time to join in or even think about joining in during a typical Mon-Fri.
Dee Michel's announcement happened to stimulate some other comments and questions, and they're certainly valid, but we aren't going to "go there" at this time.
Over the weekend, please be patient with the mix of messags. Welcome any messages about the Caldecott Winner and Honor Books (what about The Dinosaurs of Waterhouse Hawkins, folks? What makes it distinguished?), and as always, all announcements. The CCBC staff typically sends several announcements during the transition period, one of which is the announcement of upcoming topics. The NEXT topic will be the Newbery Award Winner and Honor Book. If you have something to say about either the Caldecott or the Newbery topic and the only time you have to say it is over the weekend, please join in... We'll stick to the Newbery topic beginning on Monday...
