Well, I nominated Vincent and Surviving Hitler for BBYA, and had Black Potatoes queued up to read when I got home, so I think the Sibert committee is absolutely brilliant! ;) Having just survived an exhausting and exhilarating first year on BBYA, I am empathetic with all of the award committees. It was almost impossible for me to narrow our 84 books down to my top ten. The night before our final vote we had just over 100 books that had enough votes to make the final list. We all had to trim back our votes, give up personal favorites or important books, and will surely have left off someone's favorite book. Even so we still didn't get our list down to the recommended 50u titles. I can't imagine the pain involved in cutting to 4-5 books.
The new airport security systems seemed to deal fairly well with this librarian's suitcases, bulging with exciting advance reading copies--but my arms are sore from lugging them home.
